9 Houses
Houses on Cliffs by Agata Toromanoff
Houses perched precariously on cliffs aren’t ideal for anyone with acrophobia, that much is certain. A new book from Lannoo Publishers, however, allows readers to get a close look at these buildings without setting foot inside. More than 40 homes are shown in the book Living on the Edge: Houses on Cliffs by Agata Toromanoff, all of which were constructed in what most people would consider “unbuildable” places. Toromanoff tells Architectural Digest, “I usually concentrate on features that make architecture exceptional in my works.
” To really be “living on the edge,” one must build a house in one of the world’s most difficult environments, which is often in the midst of pristine wilderness. “It is exciting to examine the newest examples and watch how different architects from all over the world come up with innovative concepts and see the way the field progresses,” Toromanoff adds. Here are nine homes perched precariously on cliffs, where only the brave can afford to live.
